Miscellaneous
To keep things small and simple, and due to Windows CE limitations, CCTransfer does not implement all features you would probably expect from an FTP client:
Currently
the upload and download of entire folders is not supported. Also, you can't
delete or rename foolders. This will be addressed in the next release. For local
file management you are invited to try CCExplore,
our freeware file manger / explorer.
Passive
mode or SOCKS proxy support are not implemented. This will be addressed in the
next release.
A
caveat. Access data for remote hosts is stored into a local file. Note, that this data is not encrypted!
Due
to the architectural differences of the various WCE devices available we can't
guarantee that the ROM Transfer mechanism works under all configurations. Should
you encounter problems here, please be patient.
Files
and Locations
CCTransfer uses the following files for record keeping:
cocos.hos - maintains a list of the various hosts with all necessary access data.
This file resides in the standard program folder, usually \windows\cocosdevelopment\cctransfer. You must not remove or rename this file.
Hard-
and Software considerations
During the development process we relied heavily on a.) the Xitami Web server for Win32 which also supports FTP, and b.) the ProFTP server for Linux. Both programs are freeware.
For development and testing we used a.) a standard serial modem connection and b.) a Socket CF LP-E Compact Flash Ethernet adaptor to connect to the Cocos corporate network. For an excellent overview of networking with Windows CE devices and a troubleshooting guide you should have look at the Ethernet FAQ section of Chris de Herrera's top rated site.
You may also want to have a look at the Miscellaneous section of the documentation for CCBrowse, our freeware web browser.
Cocos Development Ltd. will provide network analysis tools for the Palm PC in its upcoming collection CCNetTools. See the News area of our website for release schedules.
